The FreeTape is an experiential body of music, created through collaboration between Dream Defenders & Smoke Signal Studios and a few select artists and musicians. The project involved the group revisiting origins of earlier Black music in America in order to inspire and create an entirely new body of work, that maintained a resonant theme of justice and equality.

Challenge

‍The Dream Defenders & Smoke Signal Studios wanted us to design a landing page that would capture the experience of the creation of the Free Tape, as well as highlight its essential message. The design was to ignite feelings of unification and motivate site visitors into action. Overall goals of the landing page was to help site visitors understand the purpose and unique creation process of the FreeTape, stream the Free Tape itself and sign up to become members of the Dream Defenders. With a project filled with such poignant content, we were driven to design a site experience that would completely submerse onlookers.

The Final Result

‍The Free Tape landing page is designed with the technique of dissecting original artwork from the Free Tape’s album cover. Interactive graphical animations and movement throughout the entire experience are designed to keep site visitors interested in the story of its creation and inspired to listen to the Free Tape and it’s featured single, and also sign up for information on joining the Dream Defenders as an end call-to-action.
